Do you ever struggle with the daily onslaught of new and awkward questions by your inquisitive child during the summer holidays? Well you are not alone, as a nationwide survey carried out by pre-school show, Daisy & Ollie, has revealed that on average, our inquisitive little darlings each ask their parents a WHOPPING 55 questions everyday of the summer holidays - that’s 2310 questions per child over the six week break!
The study, which surveyed 1500 parents of under-six year-olds, also discovered that the most frequent question mum and dads will be asked this summer is ‘are we nearly there yet?’ (55%). Also on the list was the classic ‘why?’ (69%) and, more specifically, ‘why can’t I stay up late?’ (44%).
But it’s not just the obvious, repetitive queries, the study also revealed that children are asking some of the world’s biggest and trickiest questions such as ‘what happens when you die?’ (25%), ‘why do we need to sleep’ (38%), ‘what happens when you dream?’ (20%) and ‘who is God?’ (17%).
Comedian, executive producer, script writer and voice over artist Jason Manford of Daisy & Ollie said: “Part of my inspiration for writing the show Daisy & Ollie is my own experience as a parent. So it was the natural next step when writing the new series for the production team to go out and ask parents about the real life questions they’re facing each day. It’s fascinating that some of the most common questions are actually huge life questions, such as where babies come from, why we dream or why people die.”
Creator of Daisy & Ollie, and director of Hoopla Animation, Helen Brown, comments: “It’s amazing to be taking inspiration from all corners of the UK as we produce our new series. Whilst there are definitely some questions we simply can’t answer in a six minute episode, there are many we can, and so we hope Daisy & Ollie gives parents everywhere a six minute brew break from the daily barrage of queries so they can recharge and be ready for whatever comes out of those inquisitive little minds next!”
Daisy & Ollie aims to help pre-schoolers answer life’s biggest questions and airs everyday on Cartoonito. (Available on Sky 619, Virgin Media 706, BT 488, TVPlayer Plus).
