Safety first at Bournemouth Fireworks
A LAST minute move meant Bournemouth’s biggest fireworks party beat the windy conditions on Saturday night to thrill thousands of revellers at the Littledown Centre.
Between eight and ten thousand spectators were delighted by three fireworks displays designed by the international award-winning team at Pains Fireworks with operations manager Peter Theakston, one of the world’s leading pyrotechnicians, flying in to make sure he was on hand.
And with safety concerns paramount he insisted the fireworks viewing areas be adjusted to avoid any possibility of debris landing near spectators.
“Nobody would have noticed anything was going on but the reason we work with the best in the business, apart from their world class displays of course, is that their awareness of safety issues is second to none,” says event director Michael Callaghan.
“It takes a great deal of skill to arrange the site to the highest possible safety standards so that thousands of people get the best view possible and enjoy their night out. We also have a superb team of stewards and technicians on the ground working hard to make sure the night runs smoothly.”
As well as three fireworks displays, including the famous White Knuckle the loudest and latest display in the South, thrill seekers enjoyed a full funfair, the free indoor Family Zone and have-a-go sports sessions on the artificial pitches with coaches from local football, rugby, cricket and tennis clubs on hand, as well as yBall, the new game invented at the Littledown.
“A lot of people booked in advance and travelled from further afield and the feedback we’ve had has been incredibly positive,” adds Michael. “It was a great night for Bournemouth. Now the pressure is on once again to make next year’s event even better.”
