Last winter I saw pictures of some adorable dogs in gorgeous puffer jackets, they just looked so cute. My puppy was growing at a million miles an hour so I promised myself that we’d have one in time for next winter. I didn’t quite manage to hold out until winter but got as far as autumn!
Hugo and Hudson are an English company making high quality dog accessories: leashes, collars, bowties, harnesses and my favourites – the jackets!
My favourite are the puffer jackets, they are currently available in 10 colours and they’re reversible too. We went for the orange puffer which looks great on a chocolate coloured dog, it’s navy on the reverse so if I know we’re going somewhere where he’s more likely to get muddy I switch him to the navy side which is less likely to show dirt. The fabric is beautifully soft, it’s a shame they don’t make coats for humans and even comes with a little pouch to store the jacket in when it’s not in use. He looks gorgeous in his jacket and it’s not just my biased opinion, he does get told by plenty of passers by when we’re out walking!
They’re very practical jackets, water repellent, warm and with a hole to feed your lead through. The website states ‘to attach to a collar’ but we fit ours to a harness underneath fine. The only thing to be aware of just like pretty much any fabric is it could get caught if your dog decides to run through brambles! The puffer jackets are sold using both length and chest measurements, I wasn’t sure which to pick as his full length would have meant the jacket was huge around his chest. The Hugo & Hudson customer service team were very quick to get back to me, we went down on the length measurement which has given a much better fitting around his middle and doesn’t look too short at all.
While enjoying my online shopping trip on the H&H website we discovered their raincoats too. They’re available in three colours; red, yellow and blue. All look gorgeous and complete with two pockets and a hood. After agonising between the colours we went for the navy and were really impressed by the quality. The outer and reverse fabric are excellent quality as are the fixings, particularly the buckle. You only need to consider your dogs length when ordering a raincoat which makes it a little simpler. My dog still has his puppy craziness but he does look very stylish and most importantly stays dry!
