Our volunteers have rescued and restored 30 old stationary steam engines - some of the engines which once powered the cotton mills and woollen mills of the north of England. Our oldest engine is now over 180 years old and most are over 100 years old!
Most will be running is steam on our occasional Steaming Days (listed below). The Museum is normally closed at other times, apart from the volunteers' working days most Wednesdays and Sundays, when visitors are welcome but the engines will not be running in steam. (You are advised to ring first to check that someone will be there!)
We have an activity trail for the children, full disabled access and baby changing facilities. Worth noting that the Engine View Cafe and bookstall are currently closed due to Covid restrictions. You are advised to call ahead to check everything is running as planned during the current restrictions.
Admission is free, with free unlimited parking on Morrison's Supermarket Car Park site.
Steaming days 2021: 10am - 4pm each day. May 30 - 31, August 29 - 30, October 30 - 31 and December 28 - 29.
