The Elms Private Nursery
Set back in two thirds of an acre of secluded grounds on Blackburn Road, the Elms is two large Victorian houses designed to offer the highest possible standards of care for babies and young children. The nursery was opened in 1990 by Mrs Dorothy Wrigley who, as an early years specialist Teacher used her expertise to create an ideal nursery environment to provide the best possible start in life for children. Although retired she continues to offersupport to her daughter Jo Howarth who now owns the nursery.
One thing you'll notice as soon as you walk into the Elms is the friendly, homely atmosphere. Catering for youngsters aged from 6 weeks to 5 years, The Elms offers a stimulating environment with learning through play an important part of a day's activities. There are area's for relaxing as well as creative play and the nursery has been fully equipped with a wealth of toys and activities for all ages including a home corner, water and sand area and music corner.
Each child is treated as a unique individual and is encouraged to develop at their own pace through the early years foundation stage by the well qualified staff team.
The Elms caters for children from four age groups: birth to 12 months, 12 months to 2 years, 2 years to 3 years and our pre-school group 3+. Each age group has its own wide variety of toys, books and equipment for both educational and recreational use to arouse natural curiosity and provide pre-schooleducation.
Excellent provision has also been made for outdoor activities. Some areas have recently been upgraded and improved, our younger children now have their own safe and secure play area, the field area has new equipment including swings, climbing frame, balancing beams, Wendy house, sandpit and later this year a story corner will be created.
Safety at the Elms is a top priority, the finger print entry system is installed on the front door, thus allowing only those with authorisation to collect children from the building.
Nutritious meals are freshly prepared by the resident cook and special diets can be catered for.
