Craft Days was created by Jane Shaw, who has long dreamed of owning her own craft shop, and sharing her passion for ÃÅmaking' with others. Fed up with not being able to find the sort of products she wanted to use, she decided to open her own shop and spent time sourcing products and finding suitable premises. She wanted to be able to offer classes as well as inspirational products, so the space and environment had to be right. She found the shop in Saffron Walden High Street and the rest, as they say, is history.
Jane has been 'making' ever since she can remember and was lucky enough to be bale to study both Dressmaking and Hand Printed Textiles at A level. After leaving school, Jane trained in the Debenhams buying office in the days when the Fabrics, Yarns, Haberdashery and Crafts departments had a multi-million pound turnover. As an Assistant Buyer she worked in the Craft and Haby department, then the printed fabrics department, where they sourced products from all over the world and printed their own designs. This was followed by working variously for a craft supplies wholesaler and a UK ribbon and trimmings manufacturer, where she made projects for âââ¬ÃÅHow To' leaflets and magazine makes travelling to Europe, America and Australia. She then spent 5 years as a buyer for Liberty, which was a fantastically creative place to be. After taking a break to bring up her family she became a director in her partner's landscaping business which employs around 20 people. She even found time to teach and Evening class. After many years she thought that she had âââ¬ÃÅpushed enough paper round the desk' and decided to take the plunge and go back to her first love, crafts, textiles and colour!
Never one to be dealing with the lesser things in life, Jane has filled her shop to the brim with beautiful quality products, including a range of locally hand dyed yarns, as well as a collection by knitting guru and friend of the shop Erika Knight, which is all British, from sheep to your needles. She has continued to add to the assortment, searching out the unusual and just plain gorgeous! Ranges are constantly being up-dated and new things added, such as a range of Needle Felting supplies with all you need to get started or carry on where the class leaves off. They stock a selection of finished goods all of which are hand made, most locally, and pretty unique.
Classes play a big part in the life of the shop and are seen as essential in the ethos of the business. Craft Days has an ever increasing range of classes to appeal to all ages and abilities from learning to knit, crochet or patchwork, to dying your own yarn, needle felting, making jewellery and learning to love your sewing machine! There are classes specifically aimed at the younger âââ¬ÃÅcrafter' in the school holidays and all ages and abilities are covered in the program.
They strive to offer expert help and inspiration and are always happy to advise and give ideas.
The classes on offer are constantly being up-dated, for a full list contact Craft Days at firstname.lastname@example.org and they will add you to the e-mail list and send you the current program.
