Back in 2007, few might have imagined that a humble pet shop just off the A1 would be the site of Bedfordshire's newestpurpose-built veterinary practice.
On the Sandy to Potton road, next to the unmissable Sandy Heath TV transmitter and RSPB Headquarters, lies Deepdale Veterinary and Aquatic Centre. Established by Charles and Emma Cullen seven years ago, Deepdale remains a family owned independent veterinary practice, offering expertise and practical advice on every aspect of pet health care and welfare.
Uniquely Deepdale is not only a veterinary practice, it also includes a pet shop specialising in ethical and nutritious products, tropical and outdoor fish and equipment, reptiles and rodents.
If that were not enough, Deepdale is also a rehoming centre for the local RSPCA, successfully vaccinating, neutering and rehoming over 100 kittens and many rabbits over the past years. Many other national and local charities including Dogs Trust, Wood Green and Cats Protection also regularly use Deepdale to offer neutering and other assistance programs.
Explaining the philosophy behind Deepdale, practice manager Emma suggests the combination of professionalism with genuine empathy for the patient and pet owner might be the reason for Deepdale's success. “We are lucky to have new clients come to Deepdale every day, but
we never forget the pets and owners that have been with us from the start, and we continue to focus on affordable, practical care for all
Charles, the senior vet at Deepdale, adds wryly, it helps to have the dogs distracted by the smell of the treats from the pet aisle when they come to the vets! On a more serious note, I became a vet to improve the lives of the greatest number of pets that I could, and that means we will always focus on providing affordable, practical pet health care Speaking of the new building currently under construction, Emma says,“we are very excited by the imminent opening of the new vet centre in October. For the first time we will have a modern, purpose-built building, with all the space and facilities we need to provide the best possible environment for our patients, clients and staff. She continues, importantly, we
have ensured that the building was simple in design but heavily insulated and with use of modern materials such as sealed walls and floors to ensure the highest levels of hygiene. We will still continue to offer the most affordable health care at the highest level, and we can't wait to show everyone around at the Grand Opening!
Deepdale Vet & Aquatic Centre continues to trade as usual from the current buildings, with the Open Day for the new building on Sunday 5th October 2014
