Be a Wild World Hero this Winter!
The Summer Reading Challenge and the Winter Mini Challenge are presented by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with public libraries. The Challenges encourage children aged 4 to 11 to enjoy the benefits of reading for pleasure over the summer and winter holidays. The Summer Reading Challenge and the Winter Mini Challenge provide lots of fun as well as helping to prevent the summer and winter reading ‘dips’. Each year the Challenge motivates over 700,000 children to keep reading to build their skills and confidence.
In 2021, The Reading Agency teamed up with WWF UK for the Wild World Heroes Summer Reading Challenge - exploring nature and action for the environment through reading. Now the Heroes are back to help with the Winter Mini Challenge! Join the Wild World Heroes as they embark on an Arctic adventure to find out about the creatures that live there. You will find out about the environmental issues facing this remote place and might even spot a narwhal or two!
Taking part in the Winter Mini Challenge is simple. Read at least three books between 1 December and 16 January and add them to your online profile at wintermini.org.uk to get super fun digital rewards! You'll find loads of other great stuff on the website too, including games, book reviews, reading activities such as downloadable activity sheets and content from the best children’s authors and illustrators around. For parents we have a Home Zone and Library Zone of the website with more information on reading, the challenges and the website. We also have a Facebook page so that parents can keep up to date with news and opportunities. For competitions where you win bundles of books and online events such as draw-alongs and story time go to www.facebook.com/SummerReadingChallengeUK/
