This summer The Big Lunch returns as a moveable feast from June 5 right through to Thank You Day on 4 July, giving people a whole month to reconnect, chat and share time together in their neighbourhoods safely. It’s the UK’s annual date to celebrate and give thanks to our neighbours and community made possible by The National Lottery and Iceland and The Food Warehouse.
Great for all ages, young and old, it’s the perfect recipe to have fun with people where you live, and to share social time together after a long time apart.
Peter Stewart, Executive Director of the Eden Project, home of The Big Lunch said: “We have to take the right steps at the right pace to socialise safely this summer. With The Big Lunch starting from 5 June we can help you do just that. It’s the perfect excuse to reconnect with people and have a bit of fun after a really tough year. So why not whip up a cake, bake something tasty and invite people in your community to join you for a Big Lunch? It’s a chance to have a natter and a bit of fun together – whether that is in the park, in your gardens, on your doorstep, over the fence or online!
A Big Lunch could be a picnic in the park or a playground, a small gathering in the garden or simply raising a cuppa to each other from the doorstep.

Kitty age 10 from London is a keen baker, who last year took part in The Big Virtual Lunch. She had fun cooking Great British Bake-Off star Manon Lagreve’s French Strawberry cake which she shared with friends and neighbours at her door step Big Lunch last June.
Kitty said: “During lockdown last year me and my friends started a virtual baking club and when my mum said we could take part in an online Big Lunch bake along with Manon Lagreve I was so excited. The cakes we made were yummy and it was so fun. It was nice sharing them with our neighbours on our door step Big Lunch. I’m going to bake another cake for The Big Lunch this year and I think everyone should have a go and join in.”
The Big Lunch is the annual date to celebrate community connections, getting to know one another a little better. This year there are more reasons than ever to take part as it kicks off a Month of Community, creating even more opportunities for friendship and fun.
