Review of The Pearly White Club's Toothbrushes
There is a lot of information in the media recently about the damage plastics do to the environment especially our one use, throw away rubbish. Now a toothbrush may not be single use but if I have replaced my toothbrush as suggested I’d have used between 76-156 so far in my life! I’m up for any new ideas to find alternatives and while these will often cost more than the original they do need to be realistically priced; I recently saw an advert for plastics free deodorant sand it was £8.50 – I usually spend no more than £2 so it was going to have to last an incredibly long time for this to be cost effective.
So when I was asked if my daughter and I would review this product from The Pearly White Club I jumped at the chance. They make toothbrushes out of bamboo which is sustainably sourced.
It works on a subscription basis and you get a new toothbrush every 6 weeks – this is more toothbrushes per year than you’d use if they were plastic but even the bristles are designed to be biodegradable in less time than normal nylon. Subscription starts at £3 per month or £30 per year but if I choose to set up one for the 3 of us it is £7 per month and a family of 5 would be £11 per month or £126 per year. Whether making the switch is financially viable I guess is dependent on how much you spend already, and how much you want to help save the planet.
But how was it sticking a piece of wood in my mouth twice a day? The toothbrush is incredibly smooth so no risk of splinters. You could tell it was a natural material once it got wet but it wasn’t unpleasant. It was such a novelty for my daughter that she couldn’t wait to clean her teeth – and if you know her and hundreds of other 5 year olds that just isn’t normal. My teeth felt as clean as any other toothbrush I have used!
I have to say I did feel quite self-righteous when camping and cleaning my teeth in the great outdoors using a natural and environmentally friendly toothbrush...now I need to tackle the toothpaste!

My name is Anna, I have 1 gorgeous little girl, Holly. Her Daddy and I love taking her camping, swimming and to the beach. We are currently rennovating our house, but love nothing more than escaping to the great outdoors as a family! We are keen scuba divers and Holly has now got her first wetsuit so she can join us on our trips (not that she is diving yet!)
