Botley® 2.0 The Coding Robot is the next generation of coding fun. Botley 2.0 is easy to use with exciting new features and will have kids as young as five coding in minutes. Programme a sequence of up to 150 steps in six directions, watch it put on a light show, set it new challenges, unlock cool features, and more.
We were recently sent the new botley 2.0 to review and it was a great hit with my two daughters.
The box states it’s suitable for children aged 5 and over but my nearly 4 year old loved it too and found it easy to follow the instructions. The box also includes stickers for you to decorate the accessories and some glow in the dark.
I would advise a grown up to have a quick skim over the instructions before giving it to the child as there’s so many things botley can do. My daughters’ especially loved the ‘secret codes’ where you can enter simple codes to make him turn into a dinosaur, ghost, police car and many more. These were really good fun as he lights up and makes different sounds, especially the ghost code which only works when the lights are off!
You can use the coding or line mode to interact with botley and both are really simple to do. In coding mode we made towers with the blocks and flags and attached botley arms to try to get him to knock them over or code him to follow a set route. In the line mode you put him near the black lines on the tiles provided and he will follow them. You can also create your own lines which is fun.
Overall, we thought botley was great fun and very cute with his noises and lights. There’s endless ways to play with him and he’s a firm favourite with my girls.
