Supporting people living with cancer
CLAN Cancer Support is a well-established, local charity providing emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer, their family, carers and friends.
Our aim is to help people live with and beyond their or their loved ones cancer diagnosis and improve the quality of life for all those who turn to us for help and support.
Volunteers are essential in helping CLAN to provide a wide range of services, free of charge, to anyone affected by cancer. No matter what time you can give or what skills you can bring, CLAN can offer you a special and rewarding volunteering experience.
We have a range of volunteer roles available in locations in Aberdeen City, throughout Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
Children & Families
A cancer diagnosis can be a difficult time for adults and can also have a profound effect on children and young people. At CLAN we offer a dedicated, confidential service through our team of support workers for children, young people and families. Through their work they aim to provide information, listen to the individual and allow children and young people to explore their difficult feelings in a safe and secure environment. The team are also fully trained to undertake loss and bereavement work.
Support is offered at CLAN House in our dedicated space for young people or outwith the centre. Our team regularly visit individual’s homes or schools depending on each individual’s situation. A member of the team is regularly based in Elgin and Inverurie, clients can make an appointment or are welcome to drop in to the local centres to find out more.
The benefit of group support is of great importance, especially at a young age. With this in mind we also run a children’s group and a teens' group which meet monthly and offers a wide range of activities. The groups meet more regularly during the school holidays.
