Why choose the Junior School at St Margaret’s?

St Margaret’s School for Girls has more than 390 pupils, ranging in age from three to 18. Specialising in girls’ education since 1846, our school is large enough to offer flexibility and choice, but small enough to ensure that each girl is well known within a friendly, family atmosphere.

Small class sizes ensure that all are well-known by their teachers and that each receives individual attention and support. The school also offers support for learning with proactive, early intervention provided where necessary.

Specialist teaching in French, PE, music and drama is available to pupils from 1J and there is specialist art teaching from 5J. In 7J, lessons begin in Latin and the three sciences in preparation for the move to senior school.

There are two PE lessons a week, as well as an afternoon of either swimming or ski-ing at local facilities, or athletics, which takes place at our Summerhill playing fields.

Music holds a very special place at St Margaret’s and girls can take up individual instrumental lessons from 1J, and there are opportunities to perform from the outset.

Our outdoor learning programme for 1 and 2 Junior offers opportunities for development in communication, problem-solving, team-work and thinking skills, with classes held in local city centre gardens, Botanic Gardens and Hazlehead Woods.

The school also offers free morning care, with stimulating activities from 8am to 8.30am, and after school club from 3pm to 5.30pm.

To find out more about St Margaret’s, come along to our next Open Morning on September 28, at 10am.
